Script Text
Man/ Come, sit down, and let us talk together about this book.
Wife/ Oh, it is a Bible!
Man/ Yes, I was just reading this verse: "By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast."
Wife/ Those are good words. They bring comfort. I have heard that a person must earn his salvation by good works. That is not so, if this Book is true.
Man/ I have heard that this Book cannot be trusted as the true Word of God, and yet as I read it, light flows into my heart. I believe it is the Word of God. "Truly, truly I say unto you, he that hears My words and believes on Him Who sent Me, has everlasting life; and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death into life."
Wife/ That sounds as though we do not have to wait until the hereafter to receive eternal life! I have often been very much troubled with the thought that my good deeds would not outweigh the bad in that day of judgment. My heart has been full of fear.
Man/ Yes, but listen to these words I have found in this book: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Wife/ "The GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." It says that this Gift comes to us through Jesus Christ. I wish I knew more about Him.
Man/ Would you like for me to read a number of verses which I have found in this Book? They speak so clearly, and answer the questions in my heart.
Wife/ Yes, read on -- I am listening.
Man/ "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believes on Him is not condemned." -- "For Christ has once suffered for sins -- the Just One for the unjust -- that He might bring us to God." "He bore our sins in His own body on the cross." "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way, and the Lord has laid upon Jesus the iniquity of us all." "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." "But God commends His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath by Him."
Wife/ Those words do bring light. I am a sinner. Jesus is the Way to God, and the answer to all my needs, and all my fears. I have heard of those who try to get close to God by dreams and visions--but these words invite us to trust in the fact that Jesus died for us.
Man/ Listen, here is more. This is truly a Book of answers. "Say not in your heart, "Who shall ascend into heaven to bring Christ down?" " ...the Word is near you, even in your mouth and in your heart: that is, the word of faith... that if you shal confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Whosoever believes on Jesus shall not be ashamed.... The same Lord over all is rich unto all who call upon Him. And whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Wife/ I rest in that word, "Whosoever"- it means me. What love Jesus has for me! I do trust Him completely now.
Man/ Me too--not only light, but peace also fills my heart. It says, "Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
