Distribution and recording consultation meeting with pastors and church leaders from the Digo, Segeju, Bondei Sambaa and Zigua language group on the 3rd and 4th August in Muheza and Tanga at the Elim Pentecostal Tingeni church.
It was an interesting trip to Tanzania through Arusha from Nairobi Kenya all the way to Tanga and Muheza areas in North Eastern Tanzania, covering 738Km from Nairobi.
Thanks for your prayers and support that enabled us to have this fellowship with these pastors. It was by the grace of God that we found one of the Bondei Pastor x who was very instrumental to the meeting. He was a convert, who received a call and became a pastor from Madras teacher. The meeting findings, we realised that there was serious need for recording evangelism messages in KiSambaa, KiBondei and KiZigua languages for use for distribution to the churches in these areas.
Observations and needs:
Bondei language
- Language name is Kibondei and they live in Muheza and Pangani areas in Tanzania, neighbouring Zugula and shambala communities.
- Islamic is 65%, Christianity is 31% and evangelism is at 7%.
- Christianity has grown due to Missionary effort though traditional practices remain influential especially in the rural areas.
- Has a population of approximately over 120,000.
NEEDS
- There was great need for evangelism materials in audio form especially the Look Listen and Live series and some The Living Christ series.
- Improve education among these people group.
- Prayers, for the few Bondei Christians to find favour of Christ Jesus to spread Christianity.
- Prayers Spiritual awakening and discipleship on Bondei Muslim.
Segeju Language
- These are the Sunni Muslims who believes in a supreme God, Allah.
- They are active fishermen.
- They are about 51,000 people located on the North East Tanzania Tanga region.
- Christianity is about 5%, Muslim 90% and evangelism 0.5%
NEEDS
- There was great need for a chance to the Segeju to respond to our saviour Jesus Christ.
- There was great need for more missionaries and evangelism materials for the area. Words of Life, The Living Christ, Look Listen and Live as well as Sunday school materials.
- Pray that they will have the spiritual urge for Jesus Christ Word for salvation.
Digo / Chidigo Language
- These are people found in Kenya and Tanzania in the North East.
- They are Sunni Muslim with a population of about 498,000.
- They are Muslim 76%, Christian 20% and evangelism about 0.7%
- They are great traders, fishing activities and farming.
- They experience persecution when they become Christians also the family disinherit them though this has reduced in the past few years.
NEEDS
- Need for more churches and evangelism materials in the local language.
- Recorded Look Listen and Live materials for bible study and Sunday school teaching materials.
- Pray that Digo people may have open eyes and accept Jesus Christ Salvation.
Sambaa/Kisambaa/Shambala language
- They live in the Lushoto, Korogwe districts in Tanzania.
- They have a population of about 105100 with Muslim 55%, Christianity 40% and evangelism 14%.
- They are Famers.
NEEDS
- There is need for more discipleship materials for the churches and missioneries in the Sambaa area.
- Need to train local church leaders in Sambaa language group who can guide Spiritual growth.
- Need for simple evangelism materials to provide clear biblical stories and teachings.
- Prayers to ask God to raise committed Shambala Christian believers to lead their community boldly in biblical truth and spiritual growth..
- Pray that Sambala Muslim may encounter transformation for the Love of Jesus Christ for salvation.
Zigua language (Zigula/Kizigula)
- These people live in Tanga and Pangani region in Tanzania.
- They are Part of Somali community.
- They have a population of Approximately 990,000 with Sanni Islam 90%, Christianity 5%, evangelism 2.5%.
- They live in a humble background with very low education.
- Zigua people are Isolated from the World, like forgotten and therefore needs committed and bold missionaries.
NEEDS
- Serious need for Discipleship and evangelism materials in the simplest form, like Look Listen and Live materials with some of The Living Christ series for the church in Zigua.
- Needs Education and medical services.
- Pray for the Zigua Christians to be filled with the Holy Spirit to minister the Word.
- Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide and Zigua church will have a powerful revival to the Zigua people’s homes and churches.
Conclusion
It was clear that these are communities with serious Muslim based but there are opportunities for the church to penetrate and for the missionaries to be able to reach out to these people group.
Pastors agreed that Global Recording materials in their simplicity form will be able to help their churches to start Listening programs and bible study classes that will enable their people to understand and listen to The Word of God for the salvation of Christ.
The Language helpers for the Bondei language were found and are already translating the Look Listen and Live scripts in Bondei language.
